MY STORY
I was diagnosed with suffering from the following health problems to varying degrees:
· Pruritus
· Sinusitis
· Acidic reflux action
· Under active thyroid gland
· High cholesterol levels
· Hormonal imbalance
· Restless leg syndrome
· Chronic fatigue syndrome
· Diabetes
· Root nerve compression
· Bipolar Mood swings
· Polycystic ovarian cysts
· Low blood pressure
I was given a bag of medication .As a result of them being prescribed by different medical specialists, I later found out that if I continued with them it would have proved fatal because of the contra-indications.
As a result of the medication and the burden of ill health the quality of my life began to change, in fact deteriorate. I was forced to take medical boarding that I really did not want to. I put on an enormous amount of weight. I literally became another person. In July 2000, I went on sick leave. In June 2001, the medical boarding came through. In November 2001 I went to an Ayurvedic doctor who prescribed medication. Unfortunately after rigorous treatment, including shakes, colon cleansing, massage, medication, dietary changes etc. I found myself not coping. Whatever weight I lost I put on more. Thereafter, in January 2002, I tried the 'Weigh-less' method of weight management. I did not have the will power to keep at it.
Eventually after severe back pain I was yet again admitted to hospital for more pain relief, traction and physiotherapy. Eventually an MRI scan was done and it showed the root of my problem; C4-C5 root nerve compression. Next, started a round of visits to neuro- surgeons all suggesting the knife on my spine. It was time for action. Then came the man who was to change some aspects of my life. The CHIROPRACTOR I learnt about ROGER POWELL from an advertisement in the local newspaper. I decided to try him before I went under the knife. That was the best decision of my life. He took me under his wing and within months I noticed the changes. I started with him April 2002, the same month that I was going to graduate with my doctorate. By July 2002 I started menstruating. My sugar, cholesterol and thyroid levels began to normalize. Slowly but surely I was getting better. In July I joined the Virgin Active Health Club but rarely went. In November 2002, my husband and I went on a whirlwind trip visiting Western Europe, India and Dubai. We returned in December 2002. As a result of my feeling relatively well, I dragged my heels with visits to the chiropractor. Did I feel the pinch of the decision? My sugar shot up to 25, my cholesterol readings went up and my thyroid was playing up again. It was time for action. At the end of January 2003 I resumed treatment with the chiropractor. Roger was great. By the end of February 2003, things were looking up again. I now started to actively attend the virgin active health club. I did aqua exercises, relaxed in the sauna and steam baths. I was feeling better. By April 2003, I had even lost a kilo or two. Then it happened in May 2003. On the first Saturday of July 2003 I had an uneasy feeling that I may be pregnant and so did a home test, which proved to be positive. Early on Sunday morning I got myself to the hospital and arranged blood tests for myself. The result was positive. I was so happy. My husband was worried. My family doctor wanted to hospitalize me immediately. The chiropractor did not believe I was pregnant. I was so happy. The gynaecologist enquired if I would keep the foetus if there were one. I was so happy. As at July 6th,2003 I have stopped all medication and am managing adequately. I feel tired but that is to be expected.
I decided to join Weigh less, not to lose weight, but to maintain weight gain. On the 31 July 2003 I weighed in at 77,8kg. I did not follow the programme strictly but ate correctly. If I felt like chocolate, then I had just had a piece. If I felt like coke, I diluted it with tab. I tried to have skim milk, whole wheat bread and fruit every day. It was difficult with the water. It further continued my weekly visits to the gym were I would swim for 20 minutes only. No sauna or steam bath. But most importantly I have kept up my visits to chiropractor. I see him twice or thrice a week without fail. MY results are all within level. However, if my sugar should go to 7 or more than I would have to go onto Insulin. I am now at week 26 and things are fine so far.
As at 6 November 2003, having gained 3 kilograms, I now weigh 80, 8 kg.
I turned 38 on 11/08/2003.
